Apocalypter food and Apocalypter water are not flavor meters: hunger, thirst, and sleep are listed as real needs. Official food includes bugs, dogfood, and mystery meats; you butcher animals and mutants and cook meat (including rats). Water comes from world containers and from dew collectors you can mount on the car. Steam App 4146760, SawyerK Games. Verified September 29, 2026. Steam.
This is a driving survival FPS. A full trunk of guns still loses if the driver is dry. Pair this page with beginner guide brake/holster habits and car parts so you are not cooking next to an empty tank.

Apocalypter food is a loot class plus a hunting class. Cans (dogfood, mystery meats) and bugs cover the first hour. Butchering turns wildlife and mutants into cookable meat. This is not an idle pet plot — calories go to the driver, not a hatch timer.

| Source | Official or community | Beginner use |
|---|---|---|
| Bugs | Official list | Emergency calories |
| Dogfood / mystery meats | Official list | Shelf-stable backup |
| Butchered meat (rats, animals, mutants) | Official butcher + cook | Cook before long drives |
| Maggot farm output | Official farm; community: eats raw/cooked/rotten | Waste processing |
| Weed / tobacco plants | Official mounts | Not a hunger substitute — insanity claims unverified |
| Merchant food | Random stock | Pay rusted nuts when the trunk is empty |
A first compass loop should grab every tin you see in buildings. Hunting costs time, ammo, and sometimes HP. Once the car is a base, hunting becomes a restock, not the whole diet.
Community: spoilage is real; exact raw vs cooked timers are not published here. If meat looks wrong, cook it or feed the farm — do not invent a 47-minute rule from a comment.
Enemies drop healing items at random. That is trauma care, not dinner. Bandages and first aid kits keep you in the fight; they do not fill hunger. Keep food in crates so a gunfight does not spend your only stew.
Weapon choice for hunting is on weapons. This page only cares that you can butcher after the thing stops moving.

Apocalypter water fails faster than pride. Community: bottles and collectors at POIs; portable dew collectors exist to mount. Official: dew collectors on the moving base. There is no world map rain tracker — you plan like a desert driver.

A collector that never sees sky, or that you never installed, produces nothing. Drive, park, wait — then bottle what it made. Exact mL per hour is TBA; play the live output, do not copy a spreadsheet from Demo week.
Radiator water is not drinking water. Fuel is not drinking water. If you are topping the engine, you are not hydrating.
Official: butchering and cooking. Community: campfires, large pits, portable petrol stoves. Cook when you have a safe idle (brake on, holstered) and meat that will otherwise spoil. Cans win when you are already in a gunfight or a dust storm of a drive.
| Situation | Eat cans | Butcher + cook |
|---|---|---|
| First hour, no stove | Yes | Only if a fire is already there |
| Roof farm + parked | Backup | Yes — process the hunt |
| Hostile camp interior | Yes, fast | No — you will get shot |
| Long compass crossing | Pack cooked + cans | Do not stop twice to cook the same rat |
| Spoiled stack | No | Farm if you have maggots; else dump |
Set the parking brake. Holster. Cook. A rolling car into a fire pit is a beginner clip, not a strategy. If night is coming, cook before you lose the light — extra headlights help driving, not necessarily the pan.
Portable stoves (community) belong in a crate, not in a wish. If you have not found one, use world fires at cleared camps.
Community: some foods affect insanity; tobacco/weed may help; low HP may raise it; thresholds may spawn mutants or DoT. Unverified. Do not eat a mystery tin to “proc” a combat buff. If your 1.0 HUD shows a sanity meter, treat it as live data and report it — this page will not publish fake breakpoints.
Official: make the car a moving base with portable maggot farms, dew collectors, weed and tobacco plants. That shifts you from “loot every tin” to “drive a greenhouse.” It does not delete POI looting.
| Module | Input | Output (qualitative) |
|---|---|---|
| Dew collector | Time + sky / weather TBA | Drinkable water |
| Maggot farm | Community: raw, cooked, or rotten food | Edible processing — rates TBA |
| Plants | Care / light (hotfix mentioned plant lighting) | Weed / tobacco — not a full diet |
| Crates | Anything | The reason modules do not fall off |
Rack → dew → crate of bottles → maggot farm when spoilage hurts → plants last. Use the part adjuster so collectors are not inside the engine. A legal any-part install can still shade the dew to death.
Weight and heat: more roof mass, more reason to watch the radiator. Survival modules do not replace car parts maintenance.
The placeholder survival checklist is for loadout reminders (food, water, meds, fuel), not a spoilage simulator. Use it before a warlord attempt on warlords.
The loot is fine. The driver is dry, raw, or insane-from-a-reddit-tip.
| Mistake | Result | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Guns before water | Die holding a full mag | Bottle in the same crate as ammo |
| Never mount dew | Every trip is a scavenger panic | Rack + collector |
| Eat raw on the highway | Spoilage / sickness unknown | Park, brake, cook |
| Radiator sip | Thirst + overheat | Know which cap is which |
| Insanity speedrun | Unverified mutant storm | Ignore until HUD proves it |
| Demo diet | Wrong item set | 1.0 loot tables |
| No sleep | Fatigue compounding (hotfix called it out) | Sleep when the game insists |
Rusted nuts buy food when RNG is kind. Do not sell your last water for a cosmetic shifter. Trading.
Then go customize the roof so the next loop is boring — boring is how open-world survival is supposed to feel.
Next: pick a caliber you can restock on weapons.
Keep the car cooled and fueled on car parts, and the driver oriented on world.
Official: bugs, dogfood, mystery meats, plus butchered and cooked meat. Cans for emergencies; cook when parked and safe.
Loot bottles and mount dew collectors on the car. Radiator water is for the engine, not for drinking.
Not in the first ten minutes if buildings are full of bottles. Yes as soon as trips get longer than a single POI.
Community reports only. This page will not publish damage-over-time thresholds or food lists as fact.
